Adolfo L. Gomez
President

 

With over 15 years industrial experience, Mr. Gomez offers extensive technical insight into various business sectors including: Sterile Manufacturing, Ethical, Generic and OTC Drugs as well as Nutritional and Herbal/Botanical Supplements. Adolfo has held positions in Quality Control, Technical Services, Validation and Research and Development, with increasing levels of responsibility, including Senior Scientist, Group Leader, Manager and Director. Major accomplishments include the design of validation master plans, template creation of master batch records, design and implementation of product development project management systems, start up of a GMP pilot facility and development of traditional and novel formulations. Many of the formulations developed by Mr. Gomez have been successfully commercialized. Adolfo has been instrumental in the successful technical transfer of new products into manufacturing plants both internationally and domestically.

Mr. Gomez holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Rutgers University and a Master of Science in Pharmaceutics from Long Island University. He has presented research papers for the American Society for Microbiologists and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists.

Adolfo’s work history includes tenures at Lederle Laboratories, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Barr Laboratories, Granutec Inc., and Novopharm. Mr Gomez is a founding principal of I.D.E.A.S., Inc. During his tenure at Emerson, Adolfo has been involved with novel formulation design, technical training program development, execution of scale-up feasibility trials, process validation, process troubleshooting and development of project management systems.

Mr. Gomez is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the Asociacion Farmaceutica Mexicana.

Louis J. Forcellini
Manager, Quality Assurance

 

Mr. Forcellini offers more than 15 years of experience working in Industrial and Pharmaceutical areas. The majority of Lou’s career he has been spent developing coating systems for several unique applications. Coating expertise includes the development of control release dosage forms, systems that enhance the physical and chemical stability of sensitive compounds and efficient processes for sugar coating. In addition to coating expertise, Lou is proficient in development of tablet and capsule formulations. Lou also has expertise in many analytical techniques used to support the development of a delivery system. Lou’ collective experience enables him to be a QA professional who understands the process.

As manager of quality assurance, Lou is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Emerson’s quality systems. These responsibilities include overseeing clinical material and ingredient manufacturing. Major areas of responsibility include documentation control, facility compliance, employee training, audit liaison and batch release authority.

Lou holds a BS degree from Spring Garden College. Mr. Forcellini has held other technical and leadership positions in both laboratory and production areas.

Mr. Forcellini has had several publications involving new and innovative rapid sugar coating and coating uniformity technologies. Lou is a member of The American Chemical Society.

Aaron Barkley
Business & Strategy Development

 

Aaron Barkley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Waynesburg College. Aaron has been actively involved in the pharmaceutical industry and has played a critical role in the function and growth of two product development laboratories.

Prior to his employment with Emerson, Aaron was employed by Monsanto Pharmaceutical Ingredients, and was responsible for new product development and generation of intellectual property for patents related to novel solid dose delivery systems, and value-added ingredients.

Aaron has been with Emerson Pharma Services since its inception in 2000. He has held positions including formulation scientist, senior formulation scientist and group leader. As contact services manager, at Emerson, Aaron is actively involved in all phases of product development, process engineering, project management and customer service. His work has led to the development and marketing of several novel delivery systems in the pharmaceutical, nutriceutical and food industries. Aaron has worked in all phases of product development, technical transfer, scale-up and manufacturing, and has gained valuable experience with process optimization and introduction of new and existing production technologies and practices.

Aaron is a member of The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the New Jersey Pharmaceutical Alliance of Science and Technology.

Charles Signorino, Ph.D.
CEO

 

Involved in the pharmaceutical industry for over 30 years, Dr. Signorino offers expertise in many aspects of tablet coating. Charlie is the holder of 17 US patents related to coating in the pharmaceutical industry. He is a recognized teacher and speaker for AAPS Regional and National meetings, Glatt International symposiums, as well as various University seminars, including the University of Tennessee, University of Wisconsin, and Duquesne University. He has had numerous technical publications over the past 3 decades, and is listed in Who’s Who of American Scientists.

Dr. Signorino has a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He also has a Master of Arts and Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary.

Charlie’s extensive work history includes 20 years as Vice President and member of the Board of Directors at Colorcon Inc. In 1981 he became the President and Chairman of the Board of Emerson Resources, where in 1987 he formed CS Associates, a contract lab for coating services throughout the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Signorino is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the American Chemical Society, and serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of both Pharmaceutical Technology and American Pharmaceutical Review. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Pharmaceutics at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia.

Walter A. Strathy
Business Strategy and Leadership Development

 

Mr. Strathy offers more than 20 years of industrial experience, including working in the Ethical and Generic Pharmaceutical, OTC Drug and Nutritional/Botanical Supplement business sectors. Although the bulk of his career has been in solid dosage formulation development, Walter has held positions in Organic Synthesis Research, Facilities Management and Manufacturing Plant Operations Management. Throughout his career, Mr. Strathy has held several leadership positions including, Supervisor, Group Leader, Manager and Director of both Research and Operations based organizations. Major accomplishments include: molecular and dosage form patent awards, research facilities design and construction coordination, the development of numerous inception-to-market formulations, the development of several novel dosage forms, design and implementation of product development project management/tracking systems and significant contribution to the successful start up of a new manufacturing plant.

Walter has gained a reputation of efficient and effective execution of the challenges at hand. He has been involved with several projects that have resulted in substantial generation of capital, significant cost avoidance and/or measurable quality enhancements to several organizations.

Mr. Strathy has an extensive work history with American Cyanamid Co., Lederle Laboratories, Whitehall-Robins, Granutec, Inc. and Novopharm. Walter is a founding principal of I.D.E.A.S., Inc. During his tenure at Emerson, Walter has been involved with organizational compliance reengineering projects, technical training, equipment qualification, formulation and process troubleshooting, design/implementation of contract manufacturing certification programs, novel formulation development activities, process efficiency initiatives, process capability studies, scale-up and technical transfer of formulas into manufacturing for clients.

Walter is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.

Robert V. Tuohy III
Manager, Scientific Affairs

 

Mr. Robert V. Tuohy III currently serves as Group Leader at Emerson Resources, Inc. and offers extensive knowledge relative to the design and development of various dosage forms. As Group Leader, he has overseen numerous drug development projects ranging from early phase development of NCEs, patent circumvention for first-to-file generics, and cost saving formulation improvements for OTC products. Most importantly, Mr. Tuohy has led numerous clients through the necessary steps to develop, manufacture, and release clinical trial materials under expedited timelines in order to ensure the fastest path to the clinic and to market.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Tuohy served as Formulation Scientist for Emerson Resources, Inc. during which time he participated in the development of a variety of oral and topical dosage forms. His experience includes immediate and control release coatings, extended release matrix formulations, extrusion/spheronization technology, tablet compaction optimization, unique granulation approaches, formulation rationalization through the use of experimental design, and encapsulation. Mr. Tuohy has successfully led various technical transfer and scale-up projects and has actively served as an onsite Process Validation consultant for clients.

Mr. Tuohy is an instructor for a variety of the Emerson Science Center course offerings and his broad experience provides students with practical lectures and hands-on techniques.

Mr. Tuohy holds a Bachelor of Science degree, in Chemical Engineering, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Mr. Tuohy is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, New Jersey Pharmaceutical Association for Science and Technology, Philadelphia Pharmaceutical Forum, and the Controlled Release Society.

Stephen P. Levine
Group Leader, Scientific Affairs

 

Stephen is the Technical Services Group Leader at Emerson Resources, Inc. He has worked in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries during the past 13 years in the areas quality control, specialty coating applications, solid and liquid dose development, litigation support, analytical liaison, clinical trial manufacturing, new product development, and process optimization.

Mr. Levine holds a B.S. in Applied Human Anatomy and Physiology from Boston University’s Sargent College, and M.Div. Stephen started his scientific career with National Starch and Chemical, and then began working with Dr. Charles Signorino in C.S. Associates and Emerson Resources in 1998.

Coupling formulation development with process engineering and technical transfer Stephen is accomplished in a wide array of solid dose development including pre-formulation, granulation, tabletting, multi-particulate cores and coatings, chewables, and controlled release. Stephen has developed specific expertise in various coating systems including taste masking, organic solvent, emulsions, and sugar coating. His work in coating platforms development is rooted in design of experiment, statistical evaluation, and quality by design.

Stephen is a member of and has been a speaker for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, has had several technical publications and posters released in North America and Europe and serves as an instructor of the Emerson Science Center and for Thomas Engineering, Inc.
